Barnabás Kelemen and Katalin Kokas wins Gramophone Classical Music Awards

In 2020 the Gramophone Classical Music Awards Chamber category was secured by players Barnabás Kelemen, Katalin Kokas, Nicolas Altstaedt, Vilde Frang, Lawrence Power and Alexander Lonquich.

Their recording of Béla Bartók’s Piano Quintet and Sándor Veress’s String Trio on Alpha Classics was deemed “unmissable” by Gramophone on its release in 2020.

‘I think it fair to say that Kelemen, Frang, Katalin Kokas, Altstaedt and Alexander Lonquich sell this lovable product of youthful creative excess more securely than any of their predecessors on disc, certainly any that I have encountered’.

Barnabás Kelemen and Katalin Kokas are among the winners of the BBC Music Magazine Awards

The BBC Music Magazine Awards celebrate the very best of the classical recording world, from ambitious symphony and opera releases to imaginative and intimate chamber and solo albums.

The winners of the BBC Music Magazine Awards 2020 were announced in mid-May 2020. It was presented in seven categories, with a list of 21 nominees compiled by a professional jury out of the 170 best recordings of the previous year (only recordings that received a five-star rating from one of the magazine’s critics could be included in the list). The chamber category winner of the BBC Music Magazine Award was ultimately decided by an audience vote.

Among the chamber music recordings, the record featuring Sándor Veress’s 1954 string trio and Béla Bartók’s 1903 piano quintet in C major, which was released under the auspices of Alpha Records, deserved recognition.
